Welcome to the , Class of 2024!
We don’t want you to simply have a first year, we want you to have an experience! The University of Utah is excited to offer many engaging opportunities in your first year. By participating in programs through the Office of Orientation & Transition, you will be more connected to the University community by becoming friends with other first-year students, connecting with upper-class mentors, meeting faculty and administrators, and learning about campus resources. We invite you to learn more about each individual program by clicking on their title.
Start networking with other members of the new class by joining the Official University of Utah Class of 2023 Facebook Group. This is the only group officially sponsored by the U, and will be the best place to ask questions and start building community before NSO and Weeks of Welcome.
Start the year off right with events designed to teach you about the true U experience. Events during the first weeks of school assist students in learning about opportunities, clubs, and all the U has to offer. Welcome Week is for new and continuing U students, and includes great traditions like New Student Welcome and the Block U Class Picture!
Get a jump start on your first year! Swoop Camp Programs are extended orientation camps all about finding your place at the U while experiencing everything that the Utah great outdoors has to offer. There are three types of camps, each with a specific focus - Adventure, Backcountry & Base Camp - which allow you to customize your Swoop Camp Experience.
What better way to learn about the opportunities available and tips for a great start to college than from a successful U student? Campus Life Mentors are current students who serve as a guide, supporter, and friend to groups of first-year U students. More than anything, Campus Life Mentors are always there for their students!
Document your first year of college through pictures of your experiences. Students take pictures each week around a theme related to their college transition. The group meets together to discuss their photos and experiences. Photos are featured at a gala at the conclusion of the term.
