Welcome to the University of Utah. We know you have a lot of questions about
college. And we’re here to make the transition to the U easier. The First-Year Student Handbook was created to be a guide and help you navigate all that the University of Utah has
to offer.
Swoop Camp is an extended orientation program. To cater to all of our students, there
are three types of Swoop Camps: Adventure, Backcountry, & Base Camp. Our backyard is Utah’s great outdoors. Sign up
for Swoop Camp, get outside, and take advantage of everything that Utah has to offer.
Campus Life Mentor is a peer mentorship program designed to promote a successful first-year.
First year students are paired with undergraduate student mentors who have made the
most of their University of Utah experience. Our team of mentors are excited to connect
with students and support them every step of the way.
Picture Your First Year is a one-credit academic course that encourages students to
make meaning of their first-year experience. During your first year, you’ll navigate
some challenges and a lot of successes. These moments help shape you and your time
at the University of Utah. Using a variety of artistic mediums, students are asked
to document pivotal moments.
Weeks of Welcome are designed to help you start your first year off right. Kick-off
your first semester by attending the New Student Welcome with President Watkins, strolling
through the Get Involved Fair, and galavanting down to Rice Eccles Stadium for the
