The Office of Orientation & Transition provides opportunities to make sure you have
a stellar first year experience. Our programs encourage you to make the most of your
first year by providing spaces for you to discover who you are and who you want to
be. Along the way, we hope you find your communities, make memories, and embrace your
first year. Learn more about our programs below.
Swoop Camp is an extended orientation program. To cater to all of our students, there
are three types of Swoop Camps: Adventure, Backcountry, & Base Camp. Our backyard is Utah’s great outdoors. Sign up
for Swoop Camp, get outside, and take advantage of everything that Utah has to offer.
Campus Life Mentor is a peer mentorship program designed to promote a successful first-year.
First year students are paired with undergraduate student mentors who have made the
most of their University of Utah experience. Our team of mentors are excited to connect
with students and support them every step of the way.
Picture Your First Year is a one-credit academic course that encourages students to
make meaning of their first-year experience. During your first year, you’ll navigate
some challenges and a lot of successes. These moments help shape you and your time
at the University of Utah. Using a variety of artistic mediums, students are asked
to document pivotal moments.
Weeks of Welcome are designed to help you start your first year off right. Kick-off
your first semester by attending the New Student Welcome with President Watkins, strolling
through the Get Involved Fair, and galavanting down to Rice Eccles Stadium for the
Block U Class Picture. Join the official Class of 2024 Facebook Group and download the MobileU App to learn more.
