VIRTUAL ORIENTATION components

 

 

CANVAS COURSE

 

Goal

Successfully complete the orientation Canvas course, which includes passing all quizzes with 100%

outcome

Your Orientation hold is removed from your student account, and you are ready to meet with your academic college for first semester course planning. You are one step closer to registering for courses
 

actions

  • You will receive access to your Canvas course on the Monday of your registered orientation session - check your UMail for your Canvas invitation
  • Access the Canvas course with your UNID and password
  • You will have 48 hours to complete your Canvas course. During this time, you can navigate the content how and when you choose

TRANSFER CONNECT

Goal

Learn what current students wish they knew about transferring to the University of Utah

Outcome

You’ve met a few people and you’re starting to feel connected to your new home at University of Utah. We’re happy to have you!

  • Pop into the scheduled Zoom meeting if you can make it
  • If this doesn’t fit in your schedule, no worries  --  it’s optional

ACADEMIC ADVISING

Goal

Connect with your academic college and plan your first semester class schedule

 

Outcome

Once you meet with your Academic College for First Semester Course Planning, your Academic Advising hold is removed from your student account. You are ready to register for classes

Actions

  • Review the "Connect with your Academic College" module in your Canvas course. This will prepare you for course registration.

  • Your academic college will provide resources -- advising appointments, Zoom sessions, and informational videos -- that will support you in planning your first semester courses.
  • Have specific questions? Review information specific to your ACADEMIC COLLEGE here

COURSE REGISTRATION

Goal

Create your Spring 2021 schedule

outcomes

You’ve successfully completed course registration and are ready for Spring 2021. If you change your mind, return back and edit as needed

actions

  • Reference the Course Registration video in your virtual orientation as needed
  • Use Schedule Builder to add courses to your CIS shopping cart, and click “Finish Enrolling” to secure your class schedule
  • Need additional help with Schedule Builder? If you can make it, pop into the optional Zoom meeting on Friday from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM MST during your NSO session

  • The cost for First Year NSO is $30

  • Registration closes 3 days before NSO or until session is filled

  • Any necessary accessibility accommodations can be requested within the NSO registration form
